Lyon Shipyard is seeking a skilled HVAC/ Refrigeration Technician to join our team supporting US Navy Berthing Barge operations. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration (AC&R) systems aboard vessels. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring HVAC and refrigeration systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on shipboard AC&R equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions, including chillers, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control systems.
• Monitor system performance and ensure optimal operation.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs and service records.
• Ensure strict adherence to EPA and environmental safety standards.
• Coordinate repairs and service activities with shipboard personnel and fellow technicians.
• Recommend improvements to system performance and reliability.
• Handle refrigerants safely in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Participate in shipboard inspections and surveys as needed.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with shipboard air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• Strong knowledge of AC&R components such as compressors, motors, control valves, and thermostats.
• Working knowledge of EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling regulations (Type II or Universal certification required).
• Experience with chilled water , direct expansion systems and Mitsubishi systems preferred.
• Ability to interpret schematics, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and control system issues.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Ability to pass background screenings and obtain security clearance if required.
• Physically capable of accessing confined spaces and working in various shipboard environments.
• Able to lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs .

Physical Demands:
This position involves standing, walking, sitting, using hands for tools and equipment, reaching, and frequent communication. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
